On Friday evening, September 12, Fitch downgraded France's sovereign rating from AA- to "A+ with stable outlook." This "punishment" was already anticipated by the markets and could increase mortgage rates in the future and further reduce the country's fiscal room for maneuver.

Fitch, one of the world's three leading rating agencies, downgraded France's sovereign debt rating from AA- to "A+ with stable outlook" on Friday evening, September 12. This is the first time that France, which lost its historic AAA rating in 2012 , has been given a "simple" rating.
